New Mega Pokemon Revealed for the TCG
New Mega Cards Coming To The TCG?
The 2025 Pokemon World Championships took place in Anaheim, California from August 15th to 17th. During the closing ceremony, a special trailer revealed that Mega Pokemon are officially returning to the TCG — along with a brand-new rarity.
We got our first look at Mega Charizard ex, Mega Dragonite ex, Mega Gardevoir ex, Mega Lucario ex, and Oricorio ex. Alongside these reveals, a new rarity called “MA Rare” (Mega Attack Rare) was introduced. These cards feature the Pokemon’s attack name printed boldly across the artwork, reminiscent of the original XY-era Megas, with Japanese cards displaying the English attack names, and English prints featuring Japanese names.

Which Sets Will They Appear In?
Exact placements for the new Mega cards are still uncertain, but based on what has been shown and early product details, here is what seems most likely:

- Mega Charizard ex → Likely in Japan’s Inferno X (Sep 26, 2025), then English Phantasmal Flames (Nov). The SIR has also been revealed below!
- Mega Gengar ex & Mega Diancie ex → Expected in Phantasmal Flames.
- Mega Dragonite ex, Mega Gardevoir ex, Mega Lucario ex → Tied to Japan’s Mega Dream ex (High Class Pack, Nov 28, 2025).
- Oricorio ex → Revealed, but set placement unknown.
Mega Dream ex is expected to introduce MA Rares with a unified comic-like aesthetic, with different artists all contributing cards in this unique style. The set will likely include reprints of Scarlet & Violet 2025’s Pokemon ex and Owner’s Pokemon ex as well, though official confirmation has not been given.

Breaking news! Pictures of this Mega Charizard X ex SIR from Phantasmal Flames have been circulating after the reveal of the new Mega Charizard X ex MAR rarity. While it has not been officially confirmed to be genuine, the art style, texture, logo, and quality of the card all point to this being the actual Mega Charizard X ex SIR from Phantasmal Flames! The artist, Danciao, was the artist that gave us the Black Bolt Zekrom #166, and this card definitely seems consistent with that art style.
