Everything We Know About Phantasmal Flames (So Far)

Updated: August 30, 2025

Phantasmal Flames is the second English release of the modern Mega Evolution era, with a target street date of Friday, November 14, 2025 and prereleases planned for November 1–9. If you prefer to browse cards as they’re revealed, we keep an up-to-date Phantasmal Flames card list and a companion Inferno X list for the Japanese equivalent.

The general expectation is straightforward: Phantasmal Flames will pull the bulk of its content from Japan’s Inferno X set and combine that with cards from the two Starter Set MEGA decks—Mega Gengar ex and Mega Diancie ex.

Release timing at a glance

We’re expecting a November 14 release, with prerelease events the week prior. This follows the standard cadence for the era: a large November set with a product lineup that includes booster boxes, ETBs, and Build & Battle kits. If you like to stay informed of chase cards, keeping an eye on our Phantasmal Flames card list is the easiest way to track what’s confirmed versus still speculative.

We’ll update major dates and card confirmations as official galleries and product pages go live. For quick pings when reveals happen or retailers restock, our Discord server is the fastest way to get notified.

Headliners and what likely makes it in

The marquee face of the release is expected to be Mega Charizard X ex. We expect multiple treatments (standard, full art, SIR, and MAR).

From the starter decks, Mega Gengar ex and Mega Diancie ex are strong candidates to appear in the main set or as promos. The decks also feature thematic Illustration Rares (like Haunter and Meloetta).

Mega Attack Rare (MA) cards

The new “MA” treatment—where the attack name is integrated across the artwork—got early showcase attention and should make its way into English products alongside the Mega headliners.

What’s probably not in this one

Mega Dragonite ex is widely expected to land in a later wave tied to a different Japanese release, so it’s unlikely to be part of Phantasmal Flames.

How the Japanese sources map to English

English sets typically merge one main Japanese expansion with one or more decks. In this case, the foundation is Inferno X, with the Mega Gengar ex deck and Mega Diancie ex deck.

Products to expect

Assume the usual lineup: booster packs, booster boxes, an Elite Trainer Box, and prerelease support through Build & Battle kits. There is also a separate November product window where a Mega Charizard X ex Ultra-Premium Collection has been officially revealed as of September 2nd.
