Top 10 Most Expensive Pokemon Cards From Celebrations

Celebrations was launched by The Pokemon Company to celebrate their 25th anniversary - the set features a subset called the Classic Collection - which contains notable reprints of cards from previous sets, even including the original Big 3 - Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur from the original Base Set. This is a very fun set to open, though you might be surprised to find out that these packs only come with 4 cards. It's a smaller set, but that doesn't mean it doesn't offer a good amount of value. Today we will be going over the top 10 most expensive cards from Celebrations. 

#10. Blastoise Classic Collection - 2/102

Fans of vintage 90s pokemon cards rejoice - we've got a reprint of the original Base Set Blastoise in Celebrations! 90s kids can relive the joy of pulling this card as a child - or maybe experience it for the first time if they never had one growing up.

The Classic Series Pokemon cards are quite faithful to the original card designs, though with a 25th anniversary logo and a full card texture. It's a pretty good adaptation without losing too much of the original style. 

Blastoise 2/102 from the Classic Collection is currently valued around $5 at the time of writing.

#9. Gardevoir ex Delta Species Classic Collection - 93/101

Up at #9 we've got the Delta Species Gardevoir EX. Delta Species cards featured Pokemon with unique types - such as this fire-type Gardevoir, who would usually be a Psychic type Pokemon. 

This Delta Species Gardevoir originally came from the EX Dragon Frontiers set from 2006 - the same set that the popular Charizard Gold Star and Mew Gold Star cards came from. 

Gardevoir ex Delta Species 93/101 from the Classic Collection is currently valued around $5.50 at the time of writing.

 

At #8 we have the Xerneas EX Classic Series card, originally found in the XY Base Set from 2014. XY was the first Series to feature fairy type Pokemon - something that would be done away with with the introduction of the Sword and Shield era.

Xerneas is a legendary fairy type Pokemon that was introduced in Generation VI. Xerneas also appears on the box art, and as the mascot of Pokemon X.

Xerneas EX 97/146 from the Classic Collection is currently valued around $5.50 at the time of writing.

According to some early pull-rate data compiled by various sources, Tapu-Lele GX is claimed to be one of the hardest cards to pull from the set, with some suggesting the card might be as rare as around 1/250 packs.

Of course gathering a sample size large enough to feel confident in that data could be a challenge - nevertheless, the card comes in as the 7th most expensive card in the set, after being a big part of the TCG during the Sun & Moon era.

Tapu-Lele GX 60/145 from the Classic Collection is currently valued around $6 at the time of writing.

Mega evolutions were a mechanic introduced in Generation VI and added to the TCG during the XY era as an evolution of EX Pokemon cards.

Mega (M) Rayquaza EX originated in Roaring Skies in 2015 and saw plenty of play due to its ability to deal a lot of damage with Emerald Break. 

M Rayquaza EX 76/108 from the Classic Collection is currently valued around $8 at the time of writing.

At #5 on our list of the most expensive Pokemon cards from Celebrations, we have Mewtwo EX. This was a popular card during the Black and White era, making its appearance in the Legendary Treasures set. 

Thanks to Mewtwo EX's X Ball attack, this card would be a popular choice for players in the TCG, offering tremendous damage on the opposing Pokemon. 

Mewtwo EX 54/99 from the Classic Collection is currently valued around $8 at the time of writing.

We absolutely love that Shining Magikarp made an appearance in this set - it's a vintage favorite, and we are just disappointed its shiny Gyarados counterpart didn't find its way into Celebrations as well.

Shining Magikarp originally appeared in Neo Revelation - a vintage Pokemon card set that came out in 2000 while Wizards of the Coast was still producing cards for Nintendo. The original card is very expensive nowadays. 

Shining Magikarp 66/64 from the Classic Collection is currently valued around $15 at the time of writing.

Fans of the Pokemon TCG were very happy to find out that a gold star card would be making it into Celebrations - and it's an exceptional choice at that. Umbreon Gold Star is the third most expensive card in the set. 

Umbreon Gold Star originally appeared in Pop Series 5 in 2007. Thankfully fans have the opportunity to pull this card in Celebrations - as the original can fetch quite a premium - easily reaching a couple thousand dollars, even in ungraded condition. 

Umbreon Gold Star 17/17 from the Classic Collection is currently valued around $22 at the time of writing.

#2. Mew Gold Secret Rare - 25/25

The 2nd most expensive card in Celebrations is the only card on this top 10 list that does not come from the Classic Collection. The Gold Secret Rare Mew is the 25th card in the main Celebrations set, and the only card from the main set worth more than a dollar or two.

This Gold Secret Rare Mew features a shiny version of Mew which explains why Mew is blue rather than the normal pick-white color. There was a lot of anticipation for this card before Celebreations released, so it is no surprise to see it land at the #2 spot for the most expensive Pokemon cards from Celebrations.

Mew Gold Secret Rare 25/25 is currently valued around $40 at the time of writing.

There's no way the Pokemon Company would put together a set to celebrate 25 years of the card game without including the card at #1. The OG. The fire lizard himself. Good old #4/102. Base Set Charizard.

Few cards in the history of TCGs are as iconic as the original Base Set Charizard, and it is not surprising to find the Celebrations reprint of this card as the #1 most expensive Pokemon card from Celebrations. Someone who knows nothing about Pokemon can probably tell you a little about Base Set Charizard.

Artist Mitsuhiro Arita has been providing artwork for the Pokemon franchise since the very beginning and continues to provide artwork to-date, even in the Sword and Shield era. This card is extra special because kids who grew up in the 90s and early 2000s may have missed the chance to pull one of these cards themselves.

Being able to open packs and pull this card in 2022 brings us right back to those childhood memories - and gives us the opportunity to share something from our childhood with the newer generation. Whether we open packs with friends and family, or even by ourselves after a long day of work, there is a sentimental value to this set that is hard to match in any recent sets. Celebrations will undoubtedly go down as an especially memorable and special set from the Sword and Shield era.
