After the artwork featured in Chilling Reign and Evolving Skies was such a success, it became obvious that Alternate Art cards were going to be the future of the collectible Pokemon TCG world. Quick to put their best foot forward, Pokemon released Fusion Strike, a set with a primary focus on Mew, plus several popular Pokemon such as Gengar, Celebi, and Espeon. With a strong offering of Alternate Art cards and fan favorite Pokemon, Fusion Strike would follow the tried and true Pokemon recipe for success.

Gengar VMAX #157 Ultra Rare is currently valued around $8.15 at the time of writing. |
Interestingly, we start our list off with a regular VMAX card, the Gengar VMAX #157. Fusion Strike is loaded up with Alternate Art cards and Secret Rare Gold and Rainbow cards, so finding a regular VMAX on this list is actually quite surprising.
That said, it will become apparent later in this list why this Gengar VMAX in particular holds so much premium compared to similar cards. This Gigantamax Gengar card is shown using the G-MAX Swallow Up attack, preparing to clear everything in his path.
#9. Grass Energy #283 Secret Rare

Grass Energy #283 Secret Rare is currently valued around $8.24 at the time of writing. |
Fusion Strike also features two Gold Secret Rare Energy cards, one of which manages to make the list at #9. This Grass Energy is the second to last card of Fusion Strike at #283, while the Gold Fire Energy is the final card at #284.
Gold Secret Rare Energy cards are highly collectible for players and collectors alike, since they can be used to bling out a binder page or a TCG deck. Why use normal energy cards when they can be gold?
#8. Genesect V #255 Ultra Rare

Up at #6, we have the first Alternate Art card to make the list of the most expensive cards in Fusion Strike. This card was a fan favorite at the set's release and remains a popular one today.
Introduced in Generation V - Genesect is a dual-type Bug / Steel Mythical Pokemon. The Genesect V Alternate Art card features fantastic artwork, showcasing a breakdancing Genesect in the forefront and a Smeargle chilling in the background.

Beating out the Genesect on this list by a few dollars is the Inteleon VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare. As the final evolution of one of the Galarian starters, Inteleon has plenty of fans who would want this card.
The Inteleon VMAX Alternate Art features an awesome depiction of Gigantamax Inteleon, in sniper position, opening fire across an open landscape. It is another example of a great Alternate Art to come out of Fusion Strike and gain popularity.
#6. Celebi V #245 Ultra Rare

Celebi V #245 Ultra Rare is currently valued around $29.4 at the time of writing. |
Fusion Strike has quite a few examples of excellent artwork within the Alternate Art category, but the Celebi V Alternate Art for us takes the cake. This card features Celebi with a wintery backdrop, with snow covered steps and a few trees springing to life as Celebi flies by, with green leaves popping out of the branches of the otherwise dormant trees.
This is in essence what we (and many other people as well) love about Alternate Art cards. Instead of featuring Pokemon in their typical battle positions (though even in Alt Arts this is sometimes the case) - We get to see the Pokemon in their normal environment and interacting with their surroundings in a way we normally don't see. This Celebi V Alternate Art is a great example of that.
#5. Mew V #251 Ultra Rare

Mew V #251 Ultra Rare is currently valued around $35.34 at the time of writing. |
Mew makes the list for the first time as the #4 most expensive Pokemon card in the Fusion Strike set, this time as an Alternate Art V. Considering Fusion Strike features Mew as a central theme, you can bet it won't be the last time Mew makes the list of most expensive Fusion Strike cards.
This is an excellent artwork done by Naoki Saito, an artist well renowned for their high quality illustrations, including some of our favorites like Mimikyu VMAX #TG17, Alola Friends, Reds Challenge, Blues Tactics, Lillie #151, and even the highly limited Post Malone V. This is a seriously talented artist.

Mew VMAX #268 Secret Rare is currently valued around $35.45 at the time of writing. |
Mew appears on the list again, this time as a Hyper Rare, Secret Rainbow card. At the set's release, Rainbow Secret Rare cards were less popular, with the community favoring Alternate Arts instead. However, Rainbow Secret Rares have seen a resurgence in value recently.
The success of this Mew card was initially due to its significance in the meta, but now it’s more about the growing appreciation for Rainbow cards as collector tastes have shifted.

Mew VMAX #269 Secret Rare is currently valued around $74.69 at the time of writing. |
Get ready for a massive jump in value for the top 3 cards on this list - And if it wasn't already clear that this set is a tribute to Mew, maybe the 3rd Mew featured on this list will help to drive that point home.
Mew VMAX Alternate Art #269 is currently the 3rd most expensive card in the Fusion Strike set. The artwork features Mew lifting cars, buses, and other pieces of civilization around the Galar region. This behavior is slightly more chaotic than we are used to seeing from the Gen 1 Mythical Pokemon, but collectors still love it!
#2. Espeon VMAX #270 Secret Rare

Espeon VMAX #270 Secret Rare is currently valued around $214.87 at the time of writing. |
Although Espeon was featured in Evolving Skies as an Alternate Art V - The VMAX Secret Rare version did not end up in Evolving Skies despite the set being regarded as the 'Eeveelutions Set' - Based on Eevee Heroes from Japan. Thankfully, we ended up getting this card in Fusion Strike shortly after.
This card features a Gigantamax Espeon, peacefully sleeping on top of a building in the town. This is one of a number of popular cards recently that feature sleeping Pokemon - the Tyranitar from Battle Styles and the Dragonite from Evolving Skies being other notable examples.
#1. Gengar VMAX #271 Secret Rare

|
Gengar VMAX #271 Secret Rare is currently valued around $303.43 at the time of writing. |
For a long time, the Espeon held the #1 spot as the most expensive card from Fusion Strike. In the last year, however, there has been a shift to Gengar VMAX taking the #1 spot as more collectors and members of the community seem to prefer this card.
It's not all that surprising, considering Gengar is one of the most popular Gen 1 Pokemon, and has been a big hitter from the early days (Fossil, Skyridge, Neo Destiny) and even in more recent sets (Team Up, Phantom Forces.)
Although Gengar appears to be unleashing a devastating attack, showcasing his menacing and threatening nature, when you look closely, it looks like all he is pulling in is berries and other food. Realistically, this is just a depiction of Gengar eating food. That's not scary at all, now is it?
