Two of the most successful sets from the past 5 years have been Hidden Fates and Shining Legends. Perhaps it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that the Pokemon Company would go on to release a set called Shining Fates. As far as modern sets go, Shining Fates is quite a heavy hitter. The set reintroduces shiny Pokemon, a very popular variant found in Hidden Fates as well as in the games themselves. Interestingly, shiny Pokemon are not the only cards to land on the top 10 list of the most expensive Pokemon cards for Shining Fates. Can you guess what other type of card makes the list? If you read our other posts then you probably can! Let's take a look at the most expensive Pokemon cards for Shining Fates and see what makes this set so great.
#10. Inteleon #SV027 Shiny Holo Rare

Inteleon #SV027 Shiny Holo Rare is currently valued around $3.69 at the time of writing. |
Up first we have our first Galar starter to make the list - The Inteleon SV027. Inteleon is the final evolved form of Sobble, the water type starter Pokemon.
Within the Shiny Vault of Shining Fates you can find all of the starters from the Galar region, though interestingly, only 2 evolutionary lines make the top 10 list, or even the top 15 when you include the runner ups. Can you guess which one didn't make the cut?
#9. Koffing #SV076 Shiny Holo Rare

Koffing #SV076 Shiny Holo Rare is currently valued around $3.99 at the time of writing. |
It is always nice to see Gen-1 Pokemon make these lists, particularly when we get a good look at their shiny form. Koffing is a popular Pokemon ever since it was featured as James' primary Pokemon in the anime, and we absolutely love the shiny ice-blue color palette.
With so many Full Art shiny Pokemon within Shining Fates to choose from, it may seem a bit surprising to have baby shinies making the list. That said, this was a trend that happened in Hidden Fates as well, with several popular shiny baby Pokemon outranking their Full Art counterparts.
#8. Galarian Rapidash #SV048 Shiny Holo Rare

Galarian Rapidash #SV048 Shiny Holo Rare is currently valued around $4.07 at the time of writing. |
At #8 we get another familiar face from Generation 1. Well, to be honest, Galarian Rapidash might look a little different than you remember. This is because the Galarian forms of Rapidash and Ponyta got a remake in Generation 8.
These Galarian forms have received mixed responses from the fanbase, but the final verdict seems to be one of support - seeing as these cards in recent sets have done very well in finding value. The Alternate Art Galarian Rapidash from Chilling Reign in particular has done especially well, landing in the top 10 of that list.
#7. Eternatus VMAX #SV122 Shiny Holo Rare

Eternatus VMAX #SV122 Shiny Holo Rare is currently valued around $4.2 at the time of writing. |
And if you are tired of Shiny Holo Rare Pokemon cards being featured on this list, then I've got good news for you. At #7 on this list we have the Generation 8 Legendary Pokemon Eternatus featured in a shiny Gold VMAX card.
Pokemon has been experimenting with their Gold-style cards recently and this black and gold design is a recent introduction to the TCG. Although it can make it fairly difficult to actually make out the Pokemon on the card, it is an understatement to say these cards look stunning in person.
#6. Ditto VMAX #SV119 Shiny Holo Rare

Ditto VMAX #SV119 Shiny Holo Rare is currently valued around $4.52 at the time of writing. |
Regarded by many to be the number 1 actual chase card of the set - the Shiny Ditto VMAX Pokemon card comes in at #6 on our list of the top 10 most expensive cards for Shining Fates. This card features the shiny Dynamax version of Ditto, a fan favorite ever since Gen 1.
When Shining Fates first came out and cards originally hit eBay - this card was hitting prices of $60 or $70 because there was so much early demand for it. We are actually surprised to see it so low on this list and wonder if it may climb the rankings again in the future.
#5. Raboot #SV016 Shiny Holo Rare

Raboot #SV016 Shiny Holo Rare is currently valued around $4.63 at the time of writing. |
In one of the most surprising upsets from the entire list, Shiny Raboot #SV016 is featured as the 5th most expensive Pokemon card from Shining Fates. Raboot is the middle evolution of the Scorbunny line, and considering Cinderace doesn't make the Top 10, this is far from expected.
Additionally, Shiny Rillaboom cannot be found on the top 10 or 15 list, which as members of the Grookey Gang, we consider a major injustice. With current prices, Rillaboom is all the way down at #24.
#4. Galarian Ponyta #SV047 Shiny Holo Rare

Galarian Ponyta #SV047 Shiny Holo Rare is currently valued around $5.2 at the time of writing. |
Just as Galarian Rapidash was featured earlier at #8 on this list, Galarian Ponyta makes an appearance at #4. If you are really fond of the design of the Generation 1 Ponyta then you might have trouble liking the Galarian design, since they completely revamped the color scheme and made Ponyta a Psychic type.
Some Pokemon enthusiasts will tell you this Galarian design looks like something straight out of My Little Pony instead of Pokemon. Despite mixed opinions of the aesthetics of the card, it isn't surprising to see this card currently fetching a premium.
#3. Suicune #SV022 Shiny Holo Rare

|
Suicune #SV022 Shiny Holo Rare is currently valued around $6.74 at the time of writing. |
At #3 on the list of the most expensive Pokemon cards from Shining Fates we have the Shiny Holo Rare Suicune. Suicune was introduced in Generation 2 as one of the three Legendary beasts resurrected by Ho-Oh. Suicune is a water type Pokemon and was featured on the boxart for Pokemon Crystal.
All 3 of the Legendary beasts (Entei, Suicune, and Raikou) tend to fetch premium prices when they are featured on cards. It isn't surprising that a fan favorite Legendary as early as Gen 2 would be one of the most expensive cards found in Shining Fates.
#2. Skyla #072 Ultra Rare

Skyla #072 Ultra Rare is currently valued around $7.11 at the time of writing. |
With Full Art cards recently seeing a surge in popularity among collectors, it is a bit surprising that Skyla is the only Full Art Trainer card to make it on the list of the top 10 most expensive Pokemon cards from Shining Fates. Ever since day 1 of launch, this Full Art Trainer has fetched a premium and set itself apart from the rest of the regular cards from Shining Fates.
Shining Fates is actually broken into 2 collections - one being the standard collection with a total of 73 cards (72 plus one secret rare) and the sub-set (called the Shiny vault) which features 122 shiny cards. Skyla is the only card from the standard Shining Fates collection to make it onto this list. Every other card on this list is shiny.
#1. Charizard VMAX #SV107 Shiny Holo Rare

|
Charizard VMAX #SV107 Shiny Holo Rare is currently valued around $76.82 at the time of writing. |
If you didn't see this coming then chances are you didn't know Charizard was in this set. Any time Charizard gets featured in a set it pretty much guarantees a top placement in terms of price, and since this one is a Shiny VMAX Charizard, you can guess it's a very heavy hitter.
The other popular modern Shiny Charizard cards come from Hidden Fates and Champion's Path. The Shining Fates Charizard is a bit special, however, as it is the only Shiny VMAX Charizard to date. This comes shortly after Champion's Path released the VMAX Rainbow Secret Rare Charizard that was a huge hit. It may have been Rainbow and VMAX, but it wasn't shiny!
It's worth noting that Shining Fates has had a large print run so card prices are cheaper than you might expect compared to previous sets. We tend to think that Shining Fates is a great modern set to pursue at the moment while prices are relatively affordable!
