Top 10 Most Expensive Pokemon Cards From Legendary Collection

12 min read By The Hobby Bin Staff

Legendary Collection arrived on May 24, 2002 as a greatest-hits collection of 110 cards from Base Set, Jungle, Fossil and Team Rocket, with a reverse holofoil twin of every card hiding in random packs. The prices below are for the regular holofoil prints, while the reverse holos with their fireworks-style foil are priced separately. So which of these Kanto favorites are worth the most? From the Team Rocket Dark Pokemon to the Base Set stars, here are the top 10 most expensive cards from Legendary Collection, plus 5 runner-ups.

Jolteon Holo Rare #14/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$77.48

Low $59.73 November 4, 2025High $77.48 October 18

Jolteon is the Thunder Stone evolution of Eevee, and this Jungle card returns in a burst of spiky yellow fur that looks charged with static. Kagemaru Himeno surrounds Jolteon with yellow and white rays of lightning, so the fur seems to crackle right off the card. The text on the card says it gathers negative ions from the atmosphere to blast out 10,000-volt lightning bolts, which suits a Pokemon bristling with static. Pin Missile flips four coins and does 20 damage for each heads, so a good run can reach 80. This is the same Jolteon that Jungle introduced to English cards, so the reprint is a simple way to own the original artwork.

Alakazam Holo Rare #1/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$77.95
0% this week0% this month+31% since November 4, 2025
Low $36.63 January 2High $78.24 September 26

Alakazam opens Legendary Collection as card 1/110 because the set lists its holo rares alphabetically, just as it opened Base Set. Its middle form, Kadabra, carries a spoon in a nod to the illusionist Uri Geller, whose legal action around 2000 kept that card out of the game for about 20 years. In Ken Sugimori's artwork it holds a spoon in each hand, and the card boasts that its brain can outperform a supercomputer. Damage Swap, its Pokemon Power, lets you shift damage counters between your own Pokemon as often as you like during your turn. Alakazam shares a booster pack design with Mewtwo and Machamp's Base Set card, a trio of Psychic and Fighting heavyweights from Kanto.

Dark Raichu Holo Rare #7/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$87.25
0% this week+8% this month+60% since November 4, 2025
Low $54.37 November 4, 2025High $87.25 October 20

Dark Raichu began as the first Secret card in any Pokemon TCG expansion, a Team Rocket bonus numbered past the end of the set list. Wizards of the Coast made it especially for the English set, and the Legendary Collection reprint corrects a slip in the corner text of the original. Mitsuhiro Arita draws Raichu in mid-leap, with the tip of its tail shaped like a lightning bolt. In the card's own words, Raichu stores up electricity and suddenly releases it to shock everyone, which fits Surprise Thunder. The Turmoil theme deck carried a non-holo version too, but the holofoil print is the one that carries the Secret card's history.

Flareon Holo Rare #10/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$89.24
0% this week+1% this month+17% since November 4, 2025
Low $72.60 November 20, 2025High $89.24 October 30

Flareon returns from Jungle, where Kagemaru Himeno drew all three Eevee evolutions in a bold, watercolor-like style. A red-orange Flareon with a huge flame-colored tail sweeps across a glittering background of rainbow facets, so the card seems lit from within. The Fire Stone turns Eevee into Flareon, and the card claims its temperature can soar past 1,600 degrees while it stores thermal energy. Its best attack, Flamethrower, hits for 60 and costs you a Fire Energy each time, while Quick Attack can add extra damage on a coin flip. Jungle was the first English set to put Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon on cards, which makes this one a keepsake for Eevee fans.

Dark Vaporeon Holo Rare #9/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$136.99
0% this week0% this month+29% since November 4, 2025
Low $101.13 June 16High $136.99 October 5

Dark Vaporeon is Team Rocket's version of the Water evolution of Eevee, and it shares a Legendary Collection pack design with the Flareon card and the Jolteon card. In the first games only one Eevee can be had, a gift in Celadon Mansion, so the stone you pick decides which of the three it becomes. Mitsuhiro Arita draws Vaporeon bounding with its fins fanned out, pale lavender against a dark, starry purple field. Its description claims it can create giant whirlpools by controlling water, and its attack Whirlpool discards an Energy from the Defending Pokemon. It is the only one of the three that comes from Team Rocket rather than Jungle, so it is the odd one out when the trio sits side by side.

Venusaur Holo Rare #18/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$159.99
0% this week+3% this month+78% since November 4, 2025
Low $89.99 November 4, 2025High $170.98 July 23

Venusaur appears with Charizard and Blastoise on one of the set's booster pack designs, and this Base Set card returns with Mitsuhiro Arita's original artwork. The Seed Pokemon faces forward with a calm face and a big orange-pink flower in full bloom, which suits a plant said to bloom in the sun. Designer Ken Sugimori has said the Venusaur line was inspired by frogs, which shows in the wide mouth of this one. Its Pokemon Power, Energy Trans, lets you move Grass Energy from one of your Pokemon to another as often as you like during your turn. Venusaur currently sells for $159.99, compared to $899.99 for the Charizard that shares its pack design.

Dark Dragonite Holo Rare #5/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$239.67
0% this week0% this month+27% since November 4, 2025
Low $188.89 November 4, 2025High $243.11 August 17

Team Rocket's Dark Dragonite turns a famously kind Pokemon into a menace, with a description that even calls it the God of Destruction. Legend has it that Dragonite can circle the globe in 16 hours and lead ships lost in storms to safety. Mitsuhiro Arita's artwork shows it stretching its wings out with a fierce look, on a silver-gray Colorless card. Its Pokemon Power, Summon Minions, searches your deck for up to two Basic Pokemon and puts them on your Bench when you play it from your hand. That mix of a gentle reputation and a hostile label is what gives the Dark Pokemon their charm, and Dragonite shows it better than most.

Dark Blastoise Holo Rare #4/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$274.99
0% this week+17% this month+105% since November 4, 2025
Low $129.33 March 29High $274.99 October 13

Dark Blastoise comes from Team Rocket, the set that introduced Dark Pokemon, cards that trade hit points for harder hits than the ordinary versions. Its Japanese name, Bad Kamex, makes the idea plain, and this reprint has a non-holo twin that came only in the Turmoil theme deck. Mitsuhiro Arita draws it with its shell cannons ready, and the card describes it as an aggressive Pokemon that tackles anything it sees. Blastoise is said to use the water jets on its shell for high-speed tackles, which suits an attack named Rocket Tackle. Its Hydrocannon starts at 30 damage and grows by 20 for each spare Water Energy, topping out at 70. Its price has also risen roughly 17% over the past month, and it now sits at $274.99.

Gengar Holo Rare #11/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$289.99
0% this week0% this month+105% since November 4, 2025
Low $137.39 February 18High $289.99 September 6

Gengar was a holo rare in Fossil, and Legendary Collection reprints that card with Keiji Kinebuchi's artwork. The picture shows a grinning purple Gengar with glowing red eyes against a dark, textured background, drawn with a rendered, almost three-dimensional look. The text on the card says it likes to mimic people's shadows under a full moon, a fitting habit for a Pokemon whose name may echo the doppelganger of folklore. Its Pokemon Power, Curse, lets you move one damage counter from one of your opponent's Pokemon to another once per turn. Gengar has been a fan favorite since Pokemon Red and Blue, and this Fossil card sits among the 53 Gengar cards we track on our site.

Charizard Holo Rare #3/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$899.99
0% this week0% this month+108% since November 4, 2025
Low $400.00 July 2High $899.99 September 6

The Base Set Charizard was widely seen as the best card in the game at the height of its popularity, and Legendary Collection brings it back. Mitsuhiro Arita's artwork shows the Flame Pokemon with its wings spread and its mouth open, and a non-holo version was exclusive to the Lava theme deck. Its Pokemon Power, Energy Burn, turns all Energy attached to it into Fire Energy for the turn, which suits a Pokemon said to burn hotter after harsh battles. Collectors count the original among the most sought-after cards in the entire hobby, and this reprint carries that fame forward. It currently sells for $899.99, and since November 4, 2025 its price has climbed roughly 108%.

Together the ten cards above add up to $2,333.54 right now, and prices on a reprint set shift often, so check the full price guide before you buy. If you would rather open packs than buy singles, the sealed product guide covers the boxes and packs.

Ninetales Holo Rare #17/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$71.62
+2% this week+3% this month+67% since November 4, 2025
Low $42.98 November 4, 2025High $71.62 November 5

Ninetales returns from Base Set with a warning printed right on the card: grab one of its many tails and you could be cursed for a thousand years. Ken Sugimori's artwork shows the cream-gold fox with all nine tails fanned out behind it. The Pokemon appears to draw on the kitsune of Japanese folklore, foxes said to have many tails, very long lives and supernatural powers. Lure pulls one of your opponent's Benched Pokemon into the Active spot, and Fire Blast follows it up for 80 damage at the cost of a Fire Energy. With its pale gold fur and nine tails, it makes one of the most striking pictures among the Base Set reprints.

Articuno Holo Rare #2/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$71.62
0% this week0% this month+85% since November 4, 2025
Low $25.16 January 4High $71.62 October 25

Articuno comes from Fossil, and Legendary Collection puts it on a booster pack with Zapdos and Moltres, the other two members of the first Legendary trio. Its description says it appears to doomed people lost in icy mountains, and the design seems inspired by mythical mountain birds like the Simurgh. Its name appears to pair arctic with uno, the Spanish word for one, in the same pattern that gives Zapdos its dos and Moltres its tres. Mitsuhiro Arita paints it in mid-flight with a red eye and its wings stretched wide, in cool blues. Blizzard hits for 50, and a coin flip decides whether 10 more damage lands on your opponent's Bench or on your own.

Mewtwo Rare #29/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$67.95
+6% this week+23% this month+105% since November 4, 2025
Low $33.15 November 4, 2025High $67.95 November 2

This Mewtwo is the odd one out in Legendary Collection: a plain Rare that reprints a promo released through Nintendo Power magazine in April 2000. The artwork is by Christopher Rush, a Magic: The Gathering illustrator with just two cards on our site. It shows a pale Mewtwo crackling with blue energy in a painted forest, a far cry from the Cerulean Cave where Pokemon Red and Blue hide it. Mewtwo was created from Mew's genes, a story told through notes in a ruined mansion on Cinnabar Island. Our price history for this card starts on November 4, 2025, and its price has climbed roughly 105% since.

Machamp Holo Rare #15/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$56.98
0% this week0% this month+27% since November 4, 2025
Low $44.74 November 4, 2025High $58.24 October 29

Machamp is one of the Base Set cards that Base Set 2 left out, so Legendary Collection brought the Superpower Pokemon back. It is said to know every martial arts style, and with four arms it can pin down all of a foe's limbs at once. Its Pokemon Power, Strikes Back, deals 10 damage to any Pokemon that damages it, even if Machamp is Knocked Out. Ken Sugimori's artwork shows the blue-gray fighter with all four arms flexed in a muscle-man pose. Machamp and Alakazam's Base Set card make natural counterparts: both are final forms that evolve by trade, and the two lines sit next to each other in the Pokedex.

Gyarados Holo Rare #12/110 from Legendary Collection Pokemon card
Market price$51.69
0% this week+1% this month+14% since November 4, 2025
Low $44.26 February 10High $51.69 October 18

This Base Set card shows the Atrocious Pokemon coiled in dark water with its jaws open, drawn by Mitsuhiro Arita. Gyarados ranks among the Pokemon Arita draws most often across the cards on our site, alongside Charizard and Charmander. Magikarp and Gyarados are based on the Chinese legend of the Dragon Gate, in which a carp that leaps a waterfall becomes a dragon. With 100 HP and a Dragon Rage that does a plain 50 damage, it hits hard without needing a coin flip, while Bubblebeam can paralyze the Defending Pokemon. For anyone who loves the Magikarp story, this is the payoff card, the carp that finally clears the waterfall.
