Special Art Rare#10. Iris's Fighting Spirit Special Art Rare #247
Special Art RareComing in as the #10 most expensive card from MEGA Dream ex, Iris’s Fighting Spirit (SAR #247) is a standout Trainer chase featuring Iris, Unova’s Dragon-type specialist who served as the Opelucid City Gym Leader in Pokemon White before rising to become Unova’s Champion in Black 2 / White 2. Even though this card lands in the Japanese top 10, it may face tougher competition in English, where the biggest premiums usually go to Pokemon chase cards, and Trainer SARs often need a massive fan-favorite character to hold a Top 10 spot.
#9. Iono's Bellibolt ex Special Art Rare #236
Special Art Rare#9. Iono's Bellibolt ex Special Art Rare #236
Special Art RareIono's Bellibolt has made these lists before, with the iconic SIR from Journey Together holding a top 5 spot since release. This card features Iono from Paldea alongside Bellibolt, with Bellibolt taking up most of the frame in an exaggerated, close-up perspective. The background uses bright, geometric patterns and lightning-style accents that fit the Electric theme and the “streamer” vibe Iono is known for. The illustration by Akira Komayama leans into clean shapes, high contrast, and a loud color palette that makes the card read well and stand out as a top card from MEGA Dream ex, as well as the upcoming Ascended Heores.
#8. Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex Special Art Rare #243
Special Art Rare#8. Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex Special Art Rare #243
Special Art RareAfter seeing Cynthia's Garchomp reach premiums in Destined Rivals, it is no surprise to find collectors are valuing this card, which offers a very similar design, in MEGA Dream ex. Alongside Grimmsnarl, this SAR features Marnie, a popular trainer from the Sword & Shield series. Marnie is known for her calm, tough-as-nails personality, her understated style, and the fact that she instantly became a fan-favorite the moment she showed up in Galar. The Marnie Full Art from Sword & Shield base is still a top chase card for many collectors.
#7. Canari Special Art Rare #248
Special Art Rare#7. Canari Special Art Rare #248
Special Art RareThe 7th most expensive card in MEGA Dream ex is the Canari SAR #248. Canari is a new Trainer that was only just introduced in Pokemon Legends Z-A. Despite this recent introduction, her card has had no trouble landing solidly on this top 10 list. It seems that Pokemon is really leaning into modern trends, with influencers and streamers like Iono and Canari becoming commonplace in the series.
#6. N's Zoroark ex Special Art Rare #242
Special Art Rare#6. N's Zoroark ex Special Art Rare #242
Special Art RareTrainer's Pokemon are a big theme in MEGA Dream ex, just like they were previously in sets like Journey Together and Destined Rivals. With N cards easily receiving a premium any time they land in a set, it's not surprising to see N's Zoroark ex SAR #242 make it onto this list. In fact, N's Zoroark from Journey Together is currently the #3 card in the set, which makes this an obvious pick for a top placement in Ascended Heroes.
#5. Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex Special Art Rare #237
Special Art Rare#5. Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex Special Art Rare #237
Special Art RareThis is the final Trainer's Pokemon to make this list, and it's a suitable one to have at the halfway point. If you are familar with Destined Rivals, you will know the top card from that set is the Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex SIR #231. Interestingly, this one is outclassed in terms of value, despite the fact that this one is illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, longtime Pokemon TCG artist who illustrated the Base Set Charizard. That really goes to show the quality of the cards that made the top 5.
#4. Pikachu ex Special Art Rare #234
Special Art Rare#4. Pikachu ex Special Art Rare #234
Special Art RareThe 4th most expensive card in MEGA Dream ex has extra significance because it’s illustrated by James Turner, one of the more influential behind-the-scenes creators in modern Pokemon. Turner is a British designer who joined Game Freak and became the first Westerner to officially design Pokemon, starting with Pokemon Black & White. He went on to design Pokemon across multiple generations—Black & White, X & Y, Sun & Moon / Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, and Sword & Shield. He more recently also illustrated the Duskull line in Shrouded Fable.
#3. Mega Dragonite ex Special Art Rare #246
Special Art Rare#3. Mega Dragonite ex Special Art Rare #246
Special Art RareWith Dragonite serving as the mascot of MEGA Dream ex, it makes sense to see it get a high-rarity spotlight like this SAR. Even if some collectors aren’t sold on the wing-headed Mega design, the card itself lands as one of the cleaner, more striking chase cards in the set thanks to the composition and color work. The artwork is by DOM, an artist who first gained attention as far back as Brilliant Stars with the Jolteon Trainer Gallery card, and who has since handled a long run of Trainer Pokemon illustrations, along with several of the MEGA Attack rares in this release.
#2. Mega Dragonite ex Mega Ultra Rare #250
Mega Ultra Rare#2. Mega Dragonite ex Mega Ultra Rare #250
Mega Ultra RareWith the start of the Mega Evolution block, Pokemon introduced the Mega Ultra Rare (MUR), called Mega Hyper Rare on the English side, a full-gold chase card with a noticeably tougher pull rate than standard secret rares. So far, only three Pokemon have received this treatment: Mega Lucario, Mega Gardevoir, and Mega Charizard. Current estimates put these at roughly 1 in 1,300 packs, which puts them in the conversation for the hardest pulls in the modern TCG. Even with that level of rarity, there’s still one card in the set that ranks above the Dragonite MUR.
#1. Mega Gengar ex Special Art Rare #240
Special Art Rare#1. Mega Gengar ex Special Art Rare #240
Special Art RareEver since the Alternate Art Gengar VMAX took the top spot in Fusion Strike, collectors have been waiting for the next heavy-hitting Gengar. Well, this is exactly what they were waiting for.
The most expensive card in MEGA Dream ex, and a top contendor for the number one spot in Ascended Heores, is the Mega Gengar ex SAR #240. This card is illustrated by a popular artist Danciao. If you are familiar with this artist, you shouldn't be susprised by the premium.
Danciao is arguably the most noteworthy artist of the last few sets, having illustrated both the Mega Charizard X ex SIR from Phantasmal Flames, as well as the Zekrom ex #166 SIR from Black Bolt. Shockingly, this artist has only been with the Pokemon TCG since Twilight Masquerade, which means their batting average is extremely high.
It’ll be interesting to see whether this card outperforms the MHR Dragonite in Ascended Heroes, but we expect it will—similar to how Mega Charizard X ex SIR has been leading in Phantasmal Flames. We’re also looking forward to seeing what other artwork Danciao contributes in upcoming sets.
