Top 10 Most Expensive Pokemon Cards From Chilling Reign

Sometimes it can be a bit of a challenge to come up with things to say about all 10 cards that get featured on these lists. In the case of Chilling Reign, however, you can't say enough about the absolutely fantastic artwork found in this set. Chilling Reign brings back the popular Alternate Art card variants found most recently in Battle Styles, and notably in sets like Team Up and Cosmic Eclipse. Alternate Art cards aren't all the set has to offer, however, with a whopping 233 cards, 35 secret rares, Gold Energy cards, the Galarian Bird Trio, tons of Full Art Trainers, and some awesome Gen 1 Gold Pokemon. I mean this is a seriously STACKED set. See for yourself in this top 10 list of the most expensive Pokemon cards for Chilling Reign!

#10. Shadow Rider Calyrex V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 172/198

If the breathtaking artwork on the Shadow Rider Calyrex Alternate Full Art at #10 isn't a sign of the quality of this set than I don't know what is. Let me put it this way - if this was Battle Styles, this card would probably be the #1 chase card, yet here we have it at #10.

Calyrex is a newly introduced Legendary Pokemon in Generation 8 for the Sword and Shield expansion, The Crown Tundra. Calyrex shows up on the boxarts of the Expansion Pass, and comes in both the Ice Rider and Shadow Rider forms.

Shadow Rider Calyrex V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 172/198 is currently valued around $45 at the time of writing.

#9. Galarian Slowking V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 179/198

This has got to be one of the more controversial artworks we've seen in the Pokemon TCG. Without a doubt there is a lot of creativity and vibrant design in this card. At the same time, it's kind of a frightening depiction pulled from the mind of Tomokazu Komiya. Definitely one that will go down as one of the most memorable cards of the Sword and Shield era.

There are a lot of famous creepy Pokedex entries through the 8 generations, and Galarian Slowking will definitely be added to this list. In the Sword game specifically we find out that a combination of toxins and the shock of evolving has increased Shellder's intelligence to the point that Shellder now has control over the Slowking - quite similar to the eerie truth about Parasect's parasite.

Galarian Slowking V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 179/198 is currently valued around $50 at the time of writing.

#8. Galarian Articuno V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 170/198

Galarian Articuno comes blasting onto this list like something out of a Disney movie. No, I really mean it, this looks like something Disney would have created.

All 3 Legendary birds from Generation 1 are featured numerous times in Chilling Reign as their Galar forms. Normally Articuno would be a combination of Ice and Flying types, but Galarian Articuno is a Psychic Flying type.

This beautiful card captures the Chilling nature of this set quite profoundly and gives a glimpse of the arctic theme this set is based around. But honestly, can you believe we're only at #8 on this list?

Galarian Articuno V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 170/198 is currently valued around $51 at the time of writing.

#7. Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare - 203/198Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX 203

Calyrex once again makes an appearance on this list, this time featured as the Ice Rider form. This is an interesting card because not only is it a VMAX Legendary Pokemon, but also because it is a secret rare at #203 in the set.

Sword and Shield is known for having Rainbow and Gold cards as Secret Rares rather than VMAX Alternate Art cards, though we love to see Alternate Art cards filling the Secret Rare slots. This was also prominent in Battle Styles and we hope to see more of this in future sets.

Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare - 203/198 is currently valued around $53 at the time of writing.

#6. Zeraora V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 166/198

At #6 we arrive at an absolute fan-favorite. Although Zeraora was only introduced as recently as Generation 7, many fans of the franchise have latched onto this Pokemon and are extremely thrilled to see this beautifully designed card.

This design completely knocks it out of the park. The view stretching out over the snowy mountain tops, the glitter of sunshine reflecting off the scenery, the visibly swirling snowflakes - this is a card you can feel, and one of our all time favorite designs in Sword and Shield.

Zeraora V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 166/198 is currently valued around $61 at the time of writing.

#5. Galarian Zapdos V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 174/198

Just like we featured Galarian Articuno at #8 on this list, Galarian Zapdos makes the cut at #5. Obviously this list wouldn't be complete without the third Legendary bird, Moltres, but more on that later!

The Galarian take on Zapdos is really interesting - instead of the Electric Flying type, this Zapdos is Fighting Flying. Despite the Flying type, Galarian Zapdos was clearly modeled after a road runner. In fact, in the Shield Pokedex it is claimed that Galarian Zapdos can run at over 180 mph. Apparently this is fast enough to scale the sides of cliffs, as shown on this card.

Galarian Zapdos V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 174/198 is currently valued around $77 at the time of writing.

#4. Snorlax Gold Secret Rare - 224/198

It's about time Snorlax was given a gold card in Sword and Shield! Ever since the Snorlax VMAX and Rainbow Rare appeared in the base set Sword and Shield we've been waiting for this - and it's absolutely perfect! For many people this is the number one chase card of Chilling Reign.

While it might not really fit the arctic theme of the rest of the set, we aren't complaining. Having one of our favorite Gen 1 Pokemon as a Gold card in an already stacked set is more than we could have asked for.

Snorlax Gold Secret Rare - 224/198 is currently valued around $100 at the time of writing.

#3. Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare - 205/198

You probably could have guessed that it was only a matter of time before Calyrex made another appearance on this list - and this is the top dog Calyrex card in Chilling Reign, fetching more than double the price of the equivalent Ice Rider VMAX Secret Rare card.

Calyrex is described as being one of only a few Pokemon that is able to telepathically communicate with humans in English. Calyrex also is claimed to have ruled Galar in ancient times and was able to foresee the future and protect the Pokemon in the Galar region. Having a bit of background on Calyrex really makes this card all the more mystical. This is without a doubt one of the most stunning cards in this set.

Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare - 205/198 is currently valued around $110 at the time of writing.

#2. Galarian Moltres V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 177/198

After already covering so many cards with amazing artwork from this set you'd think we would be running out by now... Then Galarian Moltres shows up.

Allow us to go on record and say, at the moment, Galarian Moltres is the coolest looking card released in all of Sword and Shield, and probably would take the title beyond just the Sword and Shield set. This card is AMAZING.

Sometimes we forget that Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres are supposed to be Legendary Pokemon. Once you get Legendary Pokemon that can bend space and time, communicate telepathically, control the weather, bestow eternal life, and literally create the universe, the bird trio kind of pale in comparison. This Galarian Moltres is an awesome reminder that these are, in fact, Legendary Pokemon.

This card is COOL. You've got the awesome depiction of Moltres, the light shining from the moon in the background, the clouds and snow-topped trees, and what looks like the glowing eyes of creatures below Moltres. We can confidently state that this is our number one chase card from Chilling Reign, and wonder if it might one day take the #1 spot.

Galarian Moltres V Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare - 177/198 is currently valued around $122 at the time of writing.

#1. Blaziken VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare - 201/198

And finally we arrive at the current #1 most expensive card in Chilling Reign, the Blaziken VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare. Interestingly, Shigenori Negishi only illustrated two cards from Chilling Reign - The Blaziken VMAX shown here, and the regular rare Crabominable. That's a pretty good track record to land one of your two cards at the #1 spot.

The Blaziken VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare depicts a Dynamax Blaziken towering over a nearby dojo. It's actually a pretty funny illustration, with Inteleon, Drizzile, and Sobble standing on top of the dojo clearly sparring with Blaziken. We especially like how determined Sobble looks to win the battle. You can also see a Zangoose that has been knocked out on top of the tower.

Blaziken VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare - 201/198 is currently valued around $130 at the time of writing.
